FAQs
What are your fees?
My fees are:
$250 for initial 60 minute intake session (individual adults, adolescents and children)
$200 for subsequent 45 minute weekly or bi-weekly sessions (individual adults, adolescents and children)
$300 for initial 70 minute intake session (families)
$250 for subsequent weekly or bi-weekly sessions (families)
Do you take insurance?
I do not accept insurance, however, many insurance companies offer out-of-network benefits. When utilizing this benefit, you are responsible for paying the full fee at the time of service. I will then provide you with a receipt called a Superbill that you can submit to your insurance company. The portion of my fee that is covered by your insurance will then be reimbursed to you directly.
If you are unsure about whether or not you have out-of-network benefits, you can contact your insurance provider directly via the number on the back of your insurance card or by visiting their website and reviewing your plan’s summary of benefits. If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
What ages of children can you work with?
I find that the therapeutic techniques I use work best (and are backed up by evidence) with the age range of 7 and up. That is a wide range with many different developmental stages included. Each child is different, and the therapy experience will be tailored to the child’s specific need and age, as well as their strengths and abilities. If your child is younger, we can discuss how I might best be of help to you and your family. You are not alone!
How long does anxiety treatment take?
It can be hard to predict the length of treatment, as each person’s journey is unique and individual. I completely understand the time and financial commitment that is involved in therapy. It’s expensive, and moreover, we want to get our lives back! The goal is always to move you forward. Cognitive Behavior Therapy, the therapeutic modality I utilize most in my treatment plans, is a short-term, goal-oriented therapy, but the exact time in treatment will vary.
What if I live outside of New York State?
My in-person counseling services take place at my office in Huntington, NY. In addition to Huntington, I am also easily accessible to the communities of Centerport, Greenlawn, Northport, Cold Spring Harbor, Lloyd Harbor, Dix Hills, Commack, Syosset and Woodbury. Unfortunately, I am only seeing people in person and virtually who live in New York state. There are several online mental health provider guides, such as Psychology Today, Therapy Den, Monarch and Zen Care that can assist you in finding local providers in your home state.
What can I expect during therapy?
Motivation to make a change in your life is exciting, but change can be scary, especially when we are unsure of what to expect. It is normal to feel nervous when beginning therapy. Although more and more people are becoming familiar with therapy and how it works, for those who are unsure or uneasy, providing a little information about what to expect when you come to see me might help to increase your comfort level.
The initial, or intake session, is longer than a traditional session (60 - 70 minutes for initial versus 45 for regular weekly or bi-weekly sessions). In this session, we discuss what has brought you to seek support and other background information. Although 70 minutes might seem like a long time to talk, usually there is a lot of information to cover, and we will find ourselves surprised when the time is up. This session is as much about fit as it is about information. Finding the right therapist for you is as important as the therapy itself. If you don’t feel yourself connecting with the therapist, it will be much harder to access the vulnerability and trust required to make change.
Depending on why you are seeking treatment (anxiety, depression, grief therapy, support through transition, loss, parenting an anxious child, parenting a deeply feeling child, overwhelm), your treatment plan will be based on your needs, strengths and evidence-based practice methods. Initial sessions will focus on getting to know you and your unique story. As we move through our sessions, we will work together to gain insights and greater understanding of your patterns of thought, your emotions and how these influence your actions and behaviors. We will integrate and incorporate useful coping strategies into your everyday to support your growth.
The goal is to create meaningful change, cultivating self-awareness and fullness of living. I am always open to discussion of bringing our therapeutic relationship to a close when we feel you have reached your desired goals. Often times, we will lessen the frequency of our meetings as you gain confidence in your new skills. The hope is that you are feeling resilient and independent, but if extra support in the future is needed after our time together has come to an end, you are welcomed and encouraged to reach out.
